Academic Opportunities

Every effort is made to accommodate as many medical learners as possible at WDMH. We welcome second-year medical students for 20-hour placements and offer clerkship and resident electives. \

We offer placements in Rural Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, Surgery, and with Hospitalists.

WDMH has affiliation agreements with multiple medical schools across Canada and can accept learners directly to our facility.

WDMH prides itself on high-quality nursing education. We provide a varied experience for both basic clinical placements and consolidation and see this as key to our achievement of supporting academic excellence within healthcare and our community. We strive to advance nursing through partnerships with multiple academic organizations, investment in developing current and future nursing professionals, and generating new knowledge and skills through education and research.

WDMH has multiple academic affiliations across the country and supports nearly 100 nursing students on an annual basis. Nursing students are accepted in both nursing degree programs and practical nursing diploma programs in our medical/surgical unit, labour and delivery unit, and post-partum unit complex continuing care unit.

It takes multiple specialties to support a healthcare facility. Our academic program provides opportunities to a broad spectrum of learners from disciplines such as: Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician, Physiotherapist and Physiotherapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy, Food Services, Nutritional Sciences, Physician Assistants, Office Administration, Masters of Health Administration, Medical Radiation Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and many more.

Upon request, the Department of Academic Affairs locates a preceptor, confirms with the academic institution, coordinates schedules, and supports student placement until completion.

WDMH supports high school co-op placements and typically accepts two to three learners per semester for our program. We provide students with a varied experiences throughout many departments within our facility as well as exposure to our partner organizations.
