Survey Says! Staff Survey Highlights WDMH Team’s Pride

April 10, 2025

We asked and we are listening. Recently, staff and physicians at Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) participated in a survey, focusing on their job satisfaction and areas for improvement. The results make us proud!

First, an impressive 62% of staff and physicians responded to the survey. Overall employee satisfaction stands at 84%, up from 62% in 2021.

Pharmacy Technician Kelly Layden has worked at WDMH for 17 years and says it was important to provide her feedback: “I was happy to share my thoughts. Over the years, I have learned the importance of working in a positive environment. Treating your coworkers and, most importantly, patients with kindness and respect creates a motivating and productive workspace. The staff survey promotes pride and team spirit; the feeling of being part of the entire WDMH team.”

Chief of Staff Dr. Brian Devin agrees: “Our physicians appreciate that our leadership team is checking in and asking us how we are doing. The doctors are happy to share their thoughts and appreciate when this feedback is taken into account.”

“This feedback provides invaluable insights into how WDMH is doing as an employer,” notes Cholly Boland. “The results show significant progress, reflecting the positive strides we continue to make as a workplace.”

The survey was led by WDMH’s Recruitment and Retention Committee which has representation from staff and physicians throughout the hospital. The team was asked for input in several key areas:

  • Pride in the Workplace:
95.6% of staff are proud to work at WDMH, a 13.4% increase since 2021.
  • Job Satisfaction:
79% of staff are satisfied with their jobs, marking a 22% increase.
  • Collaboration Across Teams:
90.1% report strong teamwork, the largest improvement at 31%.
  • Recognition:
75.6% of staff feel recognized for their contributions, a 16% rise.
  • Communication:
Open and honest communication saw a 26% improvement.
  • Work-Life Balance:
79.6% of staff feel they maintain a healthy balance, up by 17%.

Of course, the survey also identified areas for improvement and the Recruitment and Retention Committee has developed a list of recommendations and new initiatives. These include everything from regular check-ins by managers, to more milestone celebrations, to better email management.

“Our team’s voices are helping to shape the future of WDMH,” sums up Cholly Boland. “We look forward to working together to implement these improvements and continue making WDMH a great place to work! “

WDMH is proud to offer such a positive work environment, and we are grateful to be nearly fully staffed. However, from time-to-time, we do have vacancies, and we encourage others to join our amazing team. Check our website regularly for opportunities Winchester - Current Opportunities.
